Personnel Protection

Class A 5mA circuit Breakers, 10mA and 33mA Circuit Breakers can be supplied in the reliable Federal Pioneer Stablok NA(Stab) or NB (Bolt-on) format, for use in Residential or Industrial Stablok Breaker Panels. These breakers are available in both Single Pole and Two-Pole sizes, with Load current ratings up to 50A.

For Load currents up to 70A, Class A Two Pole Panel Type 2PDT-1B can be used for applications such as Pools, Fountains, Hot tubs and Spas etc. on 120/208V or 120/240V systems.

Personnel Protection Protection against electric shock can be achieved in all installations, whether they are Grounded Systems, Ungrounded Systems, or Impedance Grounded Systems. In residential and Commercial and Industrial panels operating at 120V there can exist single phase and three phase circuits, which provide power to the usual duplex receptacles, and fixed wiring to appliances, and equipment where there is likely to be contact with people and the power system. In these areas there is a need for Safety Equipment for Personnel protection. Particularly there is a need for it in Wet or Damp Locations such as Swimming Pools or Hot Tubs, Fisheries or Processing Plants. CSA and UL have implemented standards for personnel as Class A protection. The scope of the definition is limited at present to 120V line to Ground Voltage. The Class A protection level is defined as 4 to 6 mA Trip, with a delay curve not exceeding that of Figure 1. There is no UL approval for equipment, which exceeds 120V to Ground although CSA recognizes such equipment as Unclassified Equipment. For single phase applications at 120V, Schneider Electric offers Federal Pioneer GFI Circuit Breakers from 15 to 50 Amperes in Single and Two-Pole versions for Stab-Lok circuit breaker Load Centres. These breakers are Class A approved. For submersible pumps, in Canada, the Electrical Code allows the use of 10mA breakers, where the length of the conductors (particularly if buried ) creates capacitance leakage that prevents the use of Class A devices.

Unclassified Protective Devices for Three Phase systems up to 600V can also be supplied. These devices can be supplied in the form of prewired panels (e.g. GP and GPD) or as component relays (CDD-1A and GC200) and sensors for OEM use. For three Phase applications, Federal Pioneer Panels Types GP and GPA provide protection from with 5mA and 10mA versions. The panels have CSA approval as Unclassified Equipment under C22.2 No 144. and UL approval under UL1053 (Equipment Protection) on the 10mA version only. These panels are intended mainly for motor starter applications where a contactor is used to interrupt the power to the load, in the event of a Ground Fault. The panels have no breaker but provide Normally Open and Normally Closed contacts which operate when the fault occur. The 5 mA panels provide personnel protection in three phase circuits. The panels can be used with single phase systems also, with one conductor not used.

Schneider Electric manufactures Square D Type QOGFI and Federal Pioneer StabLok Circuit Breakers for Single Pole and Two-Pole versions up to 60A for general use with a 50A version designed for Spa use only. Two types are available: Residential type and Industrial Type. The Residential type is a Plug-In or Stab type breaker (Type NA),  whereas the Industrial type is a bolt-in breaker. (Type NB).

Catalog Numbers are dependent on Ampere rating of the Load.
